Flex Rental Solutions created an RFID Proof of Concept kit that includes one handheld scanner and 7 RFID tag types so you can easily start implementing RFID for different inventory types common in the live event industry. We’ve done the work of sourcing, studying, and rigorously testing the best tags and hardware so you don’t have to. The entire kit is available as a one time-purchase, but the handheld scanner can be rented.

Zebra RFD8500 Handheld Bluetooth Scanner/RFID Reader

The Zebra RFD8500 hand-held is a bluetooth scanner and will read both RFID and Barcode tags. You can toggle between RFID and Barcode mode with a simple click of a button. This scanner will include a Quad-Lock battery cover and can connect to any Apple or Andriod device.

Metalcraft Universal Cable Label

The Metalcraft Cable Label is one of the best solutions when scanning your cables with RFID. This label is 2" x 5" and will fit nearly any cable. The wrap itself is made out of polypropylene and holds up to tough environments very well. The read range on this RFID label will depend on the case's material, but in general you should expect a 3-4 feet range.

XS Dot On RFID Tag by Xerafy

Max Read Range - 3.5 Feet

The Xerafy Dot On XS RFID tag was designed for use on metal but can be applied to many other types of surfaces, as well. In this video, you'll see that we used heat-shrink to apply this tag on a small microphone cable. The read range on this cable is about 1-2 feet but on metal surfaces it could read up to 5 feet.
