Sales in live events is about more than closing deals. It’s about understanding what a client actually needs, showing up when things get hard, and building relationships that last beyond a single show. Ashley Portier’s recognition as Sales Superhero came directly from the people who see that work up close every day.
“This award means so much because it comes from the very people I respect and work alongside,” said Ashley.
In an industry where collaboration is everything, that kind of recognition carries weight. Over the past year, Sound Ideas Production Group has navigated significant change.
Through it all, Ashley highlights the role of the community around her: “We have gone through some big changes, and the love and encouragement from our industry friends and clients has been incredible. We truly have the best cheerleaders.”
After 20 years, Ashley’s philosophy comes down to something deceptively simple: “At the end of the day, sales and really live events as a whole is about taking care of people.” That clarity is what turns clients into long-term partners and colleagues into trusted collaborators.
One of the defining traits of this industry is that there is always more to learn. Ashley’s career reflects that reality. “I’ve been in live events for 20 years, and while it took me some time to fully find my confidence and footing, I know now that I truly belong here. I’m still learning new things all the time from my peers and coworkers. That’s one of the best parts of this industry. I’ll never stop growing and learning.”
For anyone starting out, Ashley’s advice is direct and grounded in real experience. “Don’t put yourself in a box. There is no single path into live events. You don’t have to be an engineer or a gear expert to belong in this industry. What matters is how you approach the work. If you are willing to learn, adapt, work under pressure, and focus on serving the people around you, you will succeed.”
Ashley’s career is proof that there’s no single path into live events, just a commitment to the people around you. Know someone who brings that same approach to their work? Next year’s Flex Awards nominations are coming. Start thinking about who deserves a spotlight.
